Hewlett Packard HDXThe new HP HDX, nicknamed "The Dragon", has truly been packed full with features even given its larger-than-normal size. With a 20.1" HD LCD display with a resolution of 1680 x 1050, HD DVD player, TiVo and DVD recorder, stereo, built in webcam, fingerprint reader, touch-sensitive media controls, Bluetooth and five-in-one card reader; this is one laptop which may be well worth its price tag of just over $4200. Weighing in at just over 15 pounds, it's also slightly lighter than the Dell XPS M2010 and the Acer Aspire 9805WHK, as well as much thinner than both, making it much more elegant when closed. This computer boasts a great 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo T7700 processor, combined with 4GB of DDR2 RAM, two 100GB hard drives and an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2600 XT graphics card with 256mb of dedicated memory. While the screen does not support pure 1080i high definition, the 720p is still HD quality which will come far from disappointing most users. The screen is much larger than is normally expected as well, resulting in exceptional quality in the viewing of TV and movies. As far as the three main 20" screen laptops go, the Acer Aspire 9805WKH, the Dell XPS M2010 and now the HP HDX, the latter definitely comes out in front. Thinner, slightly lighter and packed with more features, there is no doubt that given the similar price tags the HP HDX is the better of the three. However, all three of these computers are very pricy. The choice becomes: do the prestige and above-average specifications on the HDX warrant a price tag so large, especially considering the weight of this laptop prevents it from being extremely portable? Many people say no, but those who do have the means to purchase this laptop may say it is worth it. The HDX could very well be one of the most popular gaming laptop around (or soon to be), but could improve by having a smaller form factor or less weight. |
